β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER EIGHT

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER EIGHT

This chapter is categorized in one section and reveals Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

1. Be sensitive to Conscience (1 Corinthians 8:1 – 13)

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

This first section emphasized on being sensitive to one’s conscience as a Believing Christian. The Church of Corinth struggled to maintain unity of faith and purpose because some of them mingled with unbelievers in idol temples, ate their food with the consciousness of an idol and not with the consciousness of Christ. In their ignorance and immaturity, they damaged the weak conscience of new converts and growing Believing Christians giving a false foundation in the Church.

Like the saying: what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Since this was affecting the unity of faith and purpose of the Church, Paul’s messages emphasized on the dangers of sin against the brethren and Christ. In other words, they were instructed and counseled to stop fellowshipping in idol temples and eating their food because of their so called strong faith. They were charged to edify the Church and not divide it. This was Paul’s conclusive message to restore the holiness and sanctity of the Church as he ended his teaching on this eighth chapter of his first epistle.

It is also good to note that this message of Paul was reopened in 2 Corinthians 7:1 where he charged the Corinthians Believers to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit in order to inherit the promises of God.

It teaches us to be mindful of social gatherings, festivals, cultural events and religious gatherings where food and drinks served have been dedicated to their gods. If we become knowledgeable of them, we are to avoid eating and drinking for the sake of Christ to holy and not defile your spirit. Be reluctant to share in the sin of idol association and worship and fellowship of eating and enjoying their food and drinks to have a negative influence in the Church. Be mindful of the faith of new converts and growing Believing Christians in the Church and edify them and not destroy their Christian lives through works of righteousness by the Holy Spirit.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the eighth chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Like a weaned child just weaned from milk and drawn from the breasts, the word of God is taught precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:9 & 10). Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He shall guide us unto all truths (John 16:13).

Connect to other writings of the Church and bible commentaries as the Holy Spirit enlightens your understanding because grace and truth emanated from our Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:17). For this study, additional biblical information from the New King James Bible Commentary added fresh revelations to enhance understanding.

Study and know its relevance to your life first as a Christian before you apply it to other Believing Christians, Church workers, Church leaders, Ministers and Christian leaders. I trust God that you will be equipped with His knowledge and continuous belief in Christ’s salvation work on the cross as tied to obedience, knowledge, spiritual wisdom, humility, spiritual growth and maturity. You are not alone because the Holy Spirit is Your Helper.

The focus here is your obedience to gain insight and understanding of Paul’s messages unto spiritual growth and maturity of the Church. It is my prayer and hope that you shall be an instrument in the Lord’s service to bring sound Christian teachings and practices to your local Church and Body of Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen. β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER SEVEN

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER SEVEN

This chapter is apportioned with four (4) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Principles of Marriage: 1 Corinthians 7:1 – 9
  2. Keep Your Marriage vows: 1 Corinthians 7:10 – 16
  3. Live as You are called: 1 Corinthians 7:17 – 24
  4. To the Unmarried and Widows: 1 Corinthians 7:25 – 40

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

The first section emphasized on the principles of marriage as a solution to the reported sexual immorality in the Church of Corinth. In righteous counsel, he advocated for affection between spouses as an obligation and not an option. As part of the marriage union and obligation, this was to be a frequent practice and should only be put on hold only during prayer and fasting days. This was to serve as a check against Satan’s subtle way of luring couples into committing sex outside marriage.

To the unmarried and widows who were like him, Paul advocated for their singleness status with marriage but was quick to add that they could marry if they lacked self – control of their sexual desires and passion. Indeed for the sake of the kingdom of God, Paul wished that all men were like him but also admitted that each of them had received own gift from God to be unmarried, married and widow and widowed.

The second section emphasized on keeping marriage vows as a commandment received from the Lord. He charged the Church of Corinth to have a marriage policy where husbands and wives could not divorce one another as Believing Christians. In other words, marriage vows were to be enforced lovingly to have mutual respects and benefits.

Also Paul used righteous counsel to maintain peace and harmony between Believing spouses and Unbelieving spouses. As long as they were willingly to live together, divorce was out of the picture. But divorce should be permitted for the unbelieving spouse who wants to leave the marriage for the sake of obtaining eternal life and being in a position to perform eternal works by the Holy Spirit.

He revealed further that the Believing spouse sanctified the Unbelieving spouse to even make their children sanctified and holy to God. For God is a promoter of peace and not chaos. He noted also that the wisdom of God is designed to make the favour, power and glory in the lives of Believing spouses transform and change unbelieving spouses to Believers.

The third section emphasized on Believers to live their lives as called by the Lord. Paul made a strong case using the tradition of circumcision of the Jews and the tradition of uncircumcision of the Gentiles. Since both Jews and Gentiles believed the gospel of Jesus Christ, he counseled the Church of Corinth to accept Believers in their state as circumcised or uncircumcised. To him, keeping the commandments of God is most important to God.

Again Paul counseled the Church of Corinth to accept the status of Believers as slaves or freed people. He counseled them to use their freedom received in Christ to be set free if possible. Besides, the revelation is that the slavery status of a Believer is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise the revelation of one called as a freedman is the Lord’s slave. By this truth, he stated that our sense of belonging is Christ who paid the big price of death on the Cross and redeemed us from sin, and the devil, and the curse of the law unto Himself.

The fourth section emphasized on additional instructions to the unmarried and widows in the Church of Corinth and all other Churches known to Paul. He revealed that the world’s persecution of the Church did not favour married people at all. Hence couples were to remain in their marriages whereas divorced couples were not to remarry. But this position of Paul was not against the institution of marriage. Rather it pointed out the foreseeable challenges against all Believing Christians whether married or unmarried or divorced. Paul’s righteous motive was to avert distraction of one’s Christian faith and service in total commitment and faithfulness.

In other words, Paul’s righteous instructions and counsels were to enable the Corinthians Believers make wise decisions with regards to giving their daughters in marriage or not to men. By this truth, their eternal salvation and eternal contributions to the kingdom of God was to be guaranteed despite what he called the β€œpresent distress”.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the seventh chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Like a weaned child just weaned from milk and drawn from the breasts, the word of God is taught precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:9 & 10). Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He shall guide us unto all truths (John 16:13).

β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER SIX

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER SIX

This chapter is apportioned with two (2) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Do Not Sue The Brethren: 1 Corinthians 6:1 – 11
  2. Glorify God in the Body and Spirit: 1 Corinthians 6:12 – 20

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

The sixth chapter of Paul’s first epistle was to introduce and enforce strong and strict judiciary policy in settling personal and Church disputes at the Church level and not before pagan courts. One of his maxims was that alternative dispute resolutions at the Church level was the best judicial approach to settle disputes because of sense of Christian faith, one faith and confession and purpose to win souls for Christ. Hence this judicial policy was preferred to taking Church disputes before pagan courts for adjudication with their own beliefs, terms and decisions.

Besides, Paul’s teaching to the Corinthians Believers revealed that God has given the Church the power to judge unbelieving sinners; even angels in accordance with the gospel of Jesus Christ. But we are not to judge one another as long as we believe and share the same Christian faith and are led by the Holy Spirit.

It means to agree with Paul that the Church is filled with wise people who have the wisdom of God in Christ and are led by the Holy Spirit to make righteous decisions with eternal benefits beyond earthly benefits. In other words, the decisions of the Church is to help you live righteously before God and make it to heaven. On the contrary, it is not all decisions at the state courts or pagan courts that make establishes the faith and unity of the Church such as adjudication cases that promote sexual immoralities like same sex marriages and marriage ceremonies.

The second section focused on glorifying God in body and spirit through holy living ad not corruption with a prostitute. For clean water will always be polluted with dirty water as long as there is a contact. He taught and enlightened further that our bodies are members of Christ and must not be in union with prostitutes. Sexual sins corrupt our most holy faith and must be eschewed because our bodies are temple of the Holy Spirit. For the former will be judged by God whilst the latter honours and glorify God as Believing Christians.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the sixth chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Like a weaned child just weaned from milk and drawn from the breasts, the word of God is taught precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:9 & 10). Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He shall guide us unto all truths (John 16:13).

β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER FIVE

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER FIVE

This chapter is apportioned with two (2) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Immorality defiles the Church: 1 Corinthians 5:1 – 8
  2. Immorality must be judged: 1 Corinthians 5:9 – 13

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

The fifth chapter of his first epistle focused first on the extent of sexual corruption and damage to the holiness of the Church. Paul did not take kindly to the in – action and tolerance levels of Church leadership as well as the spirit of arrogance and pride by the sexual offender. Though Paul was absent from the Church physically, he reminded them of being with them spiritually; emphasizing on unity of faith and purpose. That is his thoughts, prayers, works and letters was meant to strengthen them in their Christian faith and edify them. Besides his interest in the affairs of the Church made him declare his disapproval of the reported sexual immorality in the Church. Hence his rebuke of glorying in the sin of sexual immorality and not in the Lord.

The second section focused on judgment against the sin of immorality in the Church to ensure holiness, avert widely acceptance, and corruption of our most holy faith. Hence it reveals how Paul used his spiritual and apostolic authority to institute disciplinary measures to remove that immoral brother from the Church. By this judgment, Paul’s warning is to all disobedient and stubborn sinners, who reject the truth in Christ and the convictions of the Holy Spirit, to be expelled from the Church. It means to say that when all avenues for repentance, reconciliation and restoration have been exhausted with response, then the leadership of the Church has no choice but to remove the sexual offender and other non – repentant sinners from the Church assembly.

Also he clarified his judicial position by stating that the sexual immorality coupled with all sins in the Church must be judged for sanctification and cleansing purposes. Besides, he instructed that it is not the mandate of the Church to judge the world of unbelieving sinners but to preach Christ to them and win them for the Lord Jesus Christ.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the fifth chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Like a weaned child just weaned from milk and drawn from the breasts, the word of God is taught precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:9 & 10). Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He shall guide us unto all truths (John 16:13).

β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER FOUR

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER FOUR

This chapter is apportioned with three (3) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Stewards of the Mysteries of God: 1 Corinthians 4:1 – 5
  2. Fools for Christ’s Sake: 1 Corinthians 4:6 – 13
  3. Paul’s Paternal Care: 1 Corinthians 4:14 – 21

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

The fourth chapter of his first epistle focused first on being stewards of the mysteries of God as Ministers of Christ. His message was tailored to change the wrong perception of the Corinthians Believers. He was not willing to be judged by any human court of his apostolic ministry with composition of unbelieving sinners. He charged the Corinthians Believers not to judge anything before its time but commit all judgment to God who will bring out the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of human hearts. Why because every praise of the obedient comes from God and not subject to the whims and caprices of people.

Second, Paul’s second chapter of his first epistle focused on the unpopular ministry of the Apostles to be fools for Christ. He revealed the paradoxical nature of the apostolic ministry to rather produce comfortable Believing Christians through societal rejection, pain and suffering at all fronts. It was like working and labouring for others to benefit and enjoy their fruits when recognition and respect misses them. Yet this was God’s chosen way of righteousness to make the gospel of salvation real and believable to the people and the Churches.

Thirdly, Paul emphasized on his paternal care for the Church of Corinth. For they were the fruits of his ministry. He was concerned by their spiritual and physical wellbeing to make their hope of eternal life a reality and achievable through obedience and righteous living. He sent his beloved son and trusted ministry partner Timothy to remind the Church of all his ways in Christ. Besides, he dealt with the group in the Church that opposed him in ministry. For they had taken advantage of his absence to accuse him of abandonment.

Yet Paul’s response revealed his fatherly concern to restore the Church to her dignity and glory either through the rod of rebuke or love or spirit of meekness. For his return had been decided and inevitable but in the will of God and not subject to the whims and caprices of those who opposed him. With this message Paul ended chapter four by revealing his desire not to use his God given authority in using the rod of rebuke and punishment but love and spirit of meekness.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the fourth chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Like a weaned child just weaned from milk and drawn from the breasts, the word of God is taught precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:9 & 10). Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He shall guide us unto all truths (John 16:13).

β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER THREE

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER THREE

This chapter is apportioned with three (3) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Sectarianism is Carnal: 1 Corinthians 3:1 – 4
  2. Watering, Working, Warning: 1 Corinthians 3:5 – 17
  3. Avoid Worldly Wisdom: 1 Corinthians 3:18 – 23)

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

The third chapter of his first epistle focused first on his rebuke of sectarianism in the Church of Corinth that brewed carnality and immaturity among the Corinthians Believers. For the devil’s weapons of envy, strife and divisions corrupted the Church and reduced them to β€œmere men status”. Hence his inability to speak to them as matured people in the Christian faith.

Second, Paul’s second chapter of his first epistle focused on the three main areas of watering, working and warning. Paul used his apostolic work in Corinth as an example where Ministers like Apollos, Aquila and Priscilla continued from where he ended. He went further to encourage the whole Church to do the Lord’s work as required of them. He encouraged building on the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ using the right building materials unlike wrong building materials for an eternal reward.

He revealed that the Judgment Day was coming where all genuine and hypocritical and deceitful works would be brought to light and exposed in the judgment of Christ. Hence the need to be committed and faithful to calling, ministry and works of righteousness.

Thirdly, Paul contrasted worldly wisdom with God’s wisdom and charged the Corinthians Believers to avoid the former but embrace the latter to give glory to God. By this charge, he revealed that carnality and immaturity of the Church makes members give glory to people unlike spiritual growth and maturity in the Christian faith where knowledge, understanding and obedience make the members give glory to God. For all things belong to us and we are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the third chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Like a weaned child just weaned from milk and drawn from the breasts, the word of God is taught precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:9 & 10). Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes, He shall guide us unto all truths (John 16:13).

β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER TWO

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER TWO

This chapter is apportioned with two (2) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s messages to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Christ’s crucified: 1 Corinthians 2:1 – 5
  2. Spiritual wisdom: 1 Corinthians 2:6 – 16

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity.

His second chapter of his first epistle focused first on the reason and benefit of Christ’s crucifixion and the need for the Church of Corinth to keep on believing and practicing all gospel truths. For the institution and gatherings of the Church under the supervision of Aquila and Priscilla was through the preaching of Christ crucified. And he was determined to know nothing among them other than their faith in Christ; the message of the cross.

Second, Paul’s second chapter of his first epistle focused on the benefits of spiritual wisdom as a Church of Believing Christians, Church workers, Church leaders, Ministers and Christian leaders against the woes of natural wisdom that relegate Christ’s salvation work to the background. Hence his messages of insight and understanding to them.

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the second chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

β™₯ BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS CHPATER ONE

INTRODUCTION – 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER ONE

This chapter is apportioned with five (5) sections in the bible that reveal Paul’s letters to the Corinthians for our study, understanding, obedience, blessings and edification.

  1. Greetings: 1 Corinthians 1:1 – 3
  2. Spiritual gifts at Corinth: 1 Corinthians 1:4 – 8
  3. Sectarianism is sin: 1 Corinthians 1:9 – 16
  4. Christ the power and wisdom of God: 1 Corinthians 1:17 – 23
  5. Glory only in the Lord: 1 Corinthians 1:24 – 31

To enable readers and the Churches and Body of Christ as a whole understand the first chapter of Paul’s epistle, I have done my best with the grace of God upon my life and ministry to explain verse by verse or combination of verses in bringing out the quality of Paul’s messages to the Corinthians.

Clearly it portrays Paul as the spiritual father to the Church of Corinth with interest and passion to the faith of the Corinthian Believers, Christian teachings and doctrines, spiritual growth and maturity. Precisely, Paul handed the Corinthian Church to Aquila and Priscilla in AD 53 to continue his second missionary journey.

It is also important to note that Paul’s first epistle was in response to two letters received from the Chloe’s household and the team of Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus had brought from Corinth. Also, it was in Ephesus that he received two letters about the state of the Church of Corinth. Hence his response which begins the study of chapter one.

Since every letter has a beginning, content and conclusion, let us be mindful of its first chapter with five relevant areas emphasized by Paul and brother Sosthenes to the Corinthians Believers.

Study and know its relevance to your life first as Christian before you apply it to other Believing Christians, Church workers, Church leaders, Ministers and Christian leaders. This is one of the best practices to be equipped with the knowledge of God in Christ and grow spiritually in the wisdom of God unto maturity as the Holy Spirit leads you.

It is my prayer and hope that you shall be an instrument in the Lord’s service to bring sound Christian teachings and practices to your local Church and Body of Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Hallelujah!

√√ LEARN HOW TO USE ALPHANUMERIC SORTING IN EXCEL

A// ALPHANUMERIC SORTING (WITHOUT SPACING) USING THE MID FUNCTION IN EXCEL APPLICATION; MY DISCOVERY

Alphanumeric data is a combination of alphabets and numbers that usually defines a person’s identity to an organization, institution, company, agency, association and groups. It is commonly used for Identity Cards. In Public elections, it is used for Voter Identity Cards, and demarcation of regions, districts, constituencies, electoral areas and polling stations. It is a unique form of coding that gives meaning to identity of persons and filing of documents in both the public and public sector, governments, political parties, banks, security, education, health sectors, etc.

Here are simple ways to follow with proven results for your study and learning:

MID Function in excel is a text function used to find out strings and return them from any middle part of the Excel. The formula extracts the result from the text or the string itself, the start number or position, and the string’s end position. It takes three arguments as specified below.

=MID(text, start number, number chart) to sort the data. Note that when the data is the same in terms of arrangement and number of alphanumeric, you can scroll below and get the same results for the other alphanumeric data. But if the arrangement and number of alphanumeric data are different, then you need to apply the formula separately and individually. It means that you have to scan and examine each set of alphanumeric data before you apply the mid function formula in an adjustable manner.
